iDEN Java Application Loader (JAL) by Motorola Inc. is a legacy Windows utility for installing and managing Java ME (MIDP) applications on Motorola iDEN handsets. Intended for developers and enterprise administrators, it transfers MIDlet packages (.JAD/.JAR) to compatible devices over a USB or serial data cable, making it easier to test, deploy, update, and remove custom applications on iDEN phones.

Key features:

  • Install MIDlet applications (.JAD/.JAR) onto supported iDEN devices
  • Update or replace existing applications on the handset
  • Remove installed applications
  • View basic device information and transfer status with error reporting

Requirements:

  • Compatible Motorola iDEN handset with Java support
  • Motorola data cable and appropriate handset drivers
  • Windows PC (note: this is a legacy tool and may have limited compatibility with modern versions of Windows)
  • Applications packaged as Java ME MIDlets targeting the MIDP/CLDC versions supported by the device; signing may be required depending on handset and carrier policies

Notes:

  • The iDEN platform and this tool are no longer actively maintained. Availability and behavior can vary by device model, firmware, and carrier restrictions.
  • For production deployment, observe Motorola and carrier guidelines for application permissions and signing.

iDEN Java Application Loader is developed by Motorola Inc.. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 01.0 and 1.1. The name of the program executable file is iDENJAL.exe.
